To Nap or Not To Nap

There comes a time in every parents life when they are debating naps. One of mine takes a nap everyday at school and then is up until 10 pm. The other does not nap and is cranky each and every afternoon.

So what to do???

The best thing is that summer is coming and the time up will not matter, except for piece of mind. But it is such a struggle.

My 4 year old really needs some rest, but when he falls asleep, he is out for 3 hours!
My daughter (3) is the same- but she cannot make it through the day without sleep.

Such a dilemma. What do you do?

I only occasionally let my 4 year old nap. If he were to take a nap every day he would wake up at 5:30 every morning. I find that if I only do about one nap a week he gets the extra sleep he needs with out messing with his sleeping too much.

My 2.5 year olds still naps every day and really needs it. I think he would sleep in a bit later if his brother did not keep waking him up in the morning, but we don't have much of a choice in the sleeping arrangements.

I am having the same problem with my son who is 4 1/2. I'm thinking about reseting his clock by waking him by 7 a.m. (instead of letting him wake up between 8:30-9:00) and starting the routine for nap by noon. I will wake him no later than 2:30pm so we can start his bedtime routine by 8:30pm. As it stands now he wakes at 8:30 or 9:00am and can't make it through the whole day without a nap. He crashes about 3pm wakes by 5or 5:30 and then is up until 11pm. This isn't working well for us.
