Making Memories With Preschoolers- Labor Day Ideas

My mo gave me a great book, Let's Make a Memory by Gloria Gaither and Shirley Dobson. I have younger siblings and my mom used this book with them. It has some terrific ideas for making days special and planning simple special events to make lasting memories with your children, many celebrating God. Here are two abbreviated ideas for Labor Day (US) (you will probably see others come up as the time goes on):
1. Work: God's Perfect Plan- The first thing God gave Adam was a job. Celebrate God's plan for work by creating banners to put up in your house. There are some Bible verse's to go along with this idea: post a comment if you want some.
2. The Gift of Work: To help your child appreciate the gift of work, make arrangements ahead of time to them to your place of employment on a regular work day. Discussion questions are included. Begin the day by talking about the gift of work is to our lives and the joy we find in contributing to other's person lives by using the skills we have. If you are a stay at home mom, make sure you point out the things you do to help the family. Many children don't realize how much work moms do- they just think it is part of the day!

Celebrate Labor Day with your children and make them realize it is more than cook outs and the end of summer!

Requested verses:
Ps. 19:16 The firmament showeth His handiwork.
John 9:4 We must dot he work of Him who sent Me.
1 Cor. 3:9 We are workers together with God.
Neh 4:6 The people had a mind to work.
Hag 2:4 Be strong... and work, for I am with you.
Deut. 32:4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect.
2 Tim 2:15 e a workman who does not need to be ashamed.

Thanksgiving Lessons for Preschoolers

Teaching preschoolers to be thankful is a wonderful way to help them realize how fortunate we are and how much we should appreciate the things we have. You can do a simple thankful lesson by saying "I am thankful for my family." What are you thankful for? You will be amazed that it is probably not all toys and material things. Children can learn to be appreciative from all things.

And if you pray in your household, change these thankful statements to prayers of thanksgiving. Psalms 69:30 "I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving." Remember to be thankful all times of the day, not just before dinner. This would be a great game to play in the car!

Being thankful should happen everyday, not just the 4th Thursday of November!

Teaching Your Child About Worship

In our family, worship is an important part of our lives. We attend church regularly, even though you would never know from the reaction of my 4 year old. He has gone to the nursery since he was 6 weeks old, hardly missing a week! This morning, he cried when we dropped him off! 4 years later, and he still cries.

Every week when we are getting ready, he says he does not want to go. Every week, we tell him this is what our family does... we worship God on Sundays. He still tries to talk us out of going.

My little girl, on the other hand, loves going and visiting her teacher, Mrs. Dee. She says very few understandable words, but she says "Mrs. Dee." Most days, she runs in excited to see her teacher and her friends.

Since my children do not go to school, this is there opportunity to be away from mommy and daddy, learn to sit and listen, and learn about God. My son comes home each week and tells me the story he has learned.

These lessons not only teach your children about worship, but teach them about the values and traditions your family believes are important.

So matter how your family worships or teaches values, make sure you teach them beginning at the earliest of ages.
